DRIFT 101

MAN & MACHINE

MACHINE(the written part)

(Not my opinion... Time tested/Experienced Drifter's honest thoughts..)

The First Drift Mods.  Suspension and Drivetrain first. Power later.  Once you get these out of the way you will have a fundamentally-sound vehicle.

  • 2-Way or Welded LSD- VLSD's get too hot within 1-2 runs, which makes the fluid get too thin and the viscous system can't work(until the fluid cools again).

  • Coil-Overs- Helps to make the car easier to control during drift.  Helps handling in everyway.  Important.

  • Strong Clutch- Constant clutch-kicking is going to work your clutch OUT!  This is where an aftermarket clutch comes in.  No-one wants to lose their drift because their car f*cks up, a good aftermarket clutch will make sure clutch-slipping isn't an issue.

  • Tie Rods- I go through these... they give you a better steering angle to enter/control your drift.  Very important for drifting.  They are cheap, so DON'T skimp on quality.

  • Steering Wheel- Get one that your comfortable with.  That will help when you really start throwing the wheels around.

  • Please Stay  S e a t e d- Self-Explanatory, you get thrown around the cock-pit, and who doesn't want sick seats?

  • Hydraulic E-Brake- A bad e-brake makes it extremely hard to lock up the wheels, therefore you can't use it to initiate your drift.  Make sure yours either works or upgrade.  Before you put money on a new one though, make sure your other one doesn't just need to be tightened.

  • Complete Brake Kit- Really expensive, but necessary.

  • (After Everything else) Turbo, Supercharger, Roll Cage, Upgrade your upgraded suspension, etc, the possibilities are endless.  Above are the essentials.

MAN

Listen... ALL you gotta do is sit here and watch the F***ING VIDEOS.  Just kidding, watching the videos are the first step, practicing, IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT, is the key to becoming a competent drifter.  Go to events and watch/learn.  Be patient and try hard to learn, it will come.
